Urban Ecology

Available throughout the year, adaptable for ages PreK-12, and adaptable in duration.

Nature is all around us! Youth will connect with our urban ecosystem and the history of life on this land through movement- and inquiry-based games that teach native and invasive plant identification, the importance of pollination, and species adaptation. Designed for your local park or outdoor classroom, this workshop will have you looking at the city in a whole new way!

Available throughout the year, adaptable for ages PreK-12, and adaptable in duration.

Youth build a worm composting bin onsite in your outdoor or indoor learning space, and learn how to maintain it! Through hands-on learning young people understand why it’s important (and fun!) for sustainable practices to be a part of all of our lives. How much food can 1/2 a pound of worms eat in one week? Let’s find out!

Available throughout the year, adaptable for ages PreK-12, April – Nov, 90 min

Honeybees and native bees play an important role in agriculture, and their health is indicative of the health of our environment. This workshop allows students to use their five senses to explore the intricate world of a pollination and the bee colony. Students will observe the inside of an empty hive, learn how to make seed bursts to create more pollinator pathways in the city, learn all about the different types of bees and their roles in the honeybee hive world, and with explore the process of pollination and native pollinators!
