Corporate Volunteer Days

City Growers runs on Volunteers!

We rely on volunteers to keep City Growers’ learning beds lush and welcoming for our young learners.

City Growers offers a variety of ways for Corporate Volunteers to give back to the community and team-build while enjoying open space, fresh air, and spectacular views. Every project and all proceeds will directly impact New York City youth and aid City Growers in connecting young people to nature.

OUR LOCATIONS

Corporate Volunteer Days are hosted outdoors at one of the most unique places in New York City: Brooklyn Grange rooftop farms. City Growers was started by the founders of the Brooklyn Grange, who saw the educational potential of the rooftop farms. We are lucky to have access to these unique spaces, and invite you to join us for a day of urban farming atop one of these two farms.

Brooklyn Navy Yard

Est. 2012 | 1.5 Acres | BNY is the flagship farm and has chickens, bees, and farming operations. The farm can host groups of up to 13 volunteers.

Sunset Park

Est. 2019 | 3.2 Acres | Sunset Park is the newest, largest farm. It has a hydroponic greenhouse, indoor event space, and is handicap accessible. It can host up to 20 people.

SEASONALITY

There are two seasons per year when we can successfully accommodate corporate volunteers, resulting in only 4 volunteer days each year.

In April/May, including Earth Day, volunteers typically help pull cover crops from the Learning Beds, lay compost, till, and plant seeds and seedling plants.

In early November, volunteers typically pull plants, compost them, lay compost, and plant cover crops.
