About the Position:
We are hiring a team of two people to work within two separate programs: Farm Workshops and Green Ambassadors (GA).
Farm Workshops are experiential field trips to Brooklyn Grange rooftop farms. Farm Educators will engage students grades K-12 with hands-on lessons about where food comes from, plant science, composting, honey bees, and chickens. We offer one 90-minute time slot to visiting school groups per workday, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30am-12pm, with an additional hour on either end for set-up and breakdown (see sample schedule below).
Green Ambassadors is a paid after school apprenticeship program for a group of eight to ten high school aged youth. The program will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. Additional planning, set-up and break-down time will also be included (see sample schedule below).
Both programs take place at Brooklyn Grange’s Sunset Park rooftop farm, with Wednesday afternoons reserved for field trips or guest speakers.
We are looking for two Educators who will facilitate job skill development, co-lead gardening and ecology curriculum and guided discussions, as well as supervise field trips to various green job sites.
Both programs begin the week of April 3rd, with required program training dates (exact dates/times TBD) at the end of March. Green Ambassadors runs until June 7th, for a total of eight weeks, with a program break the week of April 17th and May 29th. Farm Workshops continue until June 23rd, with the possibility of additional employment opportunities. This will be explained in detail in the interview process.
